The Green Grid

The Green Grid is a global consortium dedicated to advancing energy efficiency in data centers and business computing ecosystems. In furtherance of its mission, The Green Grid is focused on the following: defining meaningful, user-centric models and metrics; developing standards, measurement methods, processes and new technologies to improve data center performance against the defined metrics; and promoting the adoption of energy efficient standards, processes, measurements and technologies.

The Fibre Channel Industry Association (FCIA)

The Fibre Channel Industry Association (FCIA) is a mutual benefit non-profit international organization of manufacturers, system integrators, developers, vendors, industry professionals and end users. The FCIA is committed to delivering a broad base of Fibre Channel infrastructure technology to support a wide array of applications within the mass storage and IT-based arenas. FCIA working groups and committees focus on specific aspects of the technology, targeting both vertical and horizontal markets including data storage, video, networking and storage area networking (SAN) management.

This is the WWW home page for Technical Committee T11, which is the committee within INCITS responsible for Device Level Interfaces. T11 (previously known as X3T9.3) has been producing interface standards for high-performance and mass storage applications since the 1970s.

A quick search of the popular hardware-enthusiast sites shows a trend: Video and 3D are the most popular topics, closely followed by CPU and motherboard evaluations. Sites featuring such topics run from giant, well-established ones all the way down to new pages still wet behind the ears. StorageReview.com, on the other hand, attempts to address a topic that seems sadly neglected in the online community: hard disk and storage-related performance. No, they're not glamorous. No, we can't come up with loads of interesting screen shots and pictures (hard drives tend to look very similar to one another after a while). Hard drive performance is, however, vital to the overall performance of your PC. Instead of competing for your attention with the "other guys", StorageReview.com attempts to supplement the excellent hardware coverage already out there with news and reviews of storage-related products.

Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA)

The SNIA connects the IT industry with end-to-end storage and information management solutions.

Storage Performance Council (SPC)

The goal of the SPC is to serve as a catalyst for performance improvement in storage subsystems. It works to foster the free and open exchange of ideas and information, and to ensure fair and vigorous competition between vendors as a means of improving the products and services available to the general public.

In support of its goals the SPC develops benchmarks focusing on storage subsystems. These subsystems include components like: electronic disks, magnetic disks, magnetic tapes, optical disks, media robots, media robot software systems, media library software systems, backup/archival software systems, hierarchical storage management systems, as well as the adapters, controllers, and networks that connect storage devices to the computer system.

The SPC is also focused on expanding the recognition and use of its industry-standard benchmarks as well as publicizing those benchmark results. As a result, customers will be able to more accurately assess the performance and price/performance of competing storage products prior to acquisition. Although anyone can run SPC benchmarks, for them to be disseminated and adopted within the industry, published benchmark results must successfully complete a SPC audit for accuracy and authenticity.
